UPDATE: "Check Gas Cap" Dashboard Alert and the FIX :As some other purchasers have mentioned, we too saw the dreaded "Check Gas Cap" alert appear on the dashboard of a 2016 Jeep Patriot, indicating that the new locking gas cap was leaking gas vapor and not sealing tightly to the gas filler tube. The fix was to spray some WD-40 on the rubber gasket that felt rigid and inflexible. Once we sprayed WD-40 on the gas cap's rubber gasket the "Check Gas Cap" light disappeared. Likely "Armor-All" would work to add flexibility to the the rubber gasket as well, but WD-40 is petroleum based and will not hurt the engine if it drips get into the gas tank.We also took the opportunity to spray some WD-40 into the lock mechanism to try and keep it easy to work since it is a very stiff lock cylinder that hopefully will eventually become easier to turn. Despite the adventure with the "Check Gas Cap" light, the locking gas cap continues to perform well as a locking gas cap should!Original Review:The "Amazon Vehicle Products Checker" listed the Motorad MGC-907 locking gas cap as compatible, and sure enough it works perfectly with our car. Many reviewers have claimed this gas cap prompted warning lights of gas vapor leakage occurring from their vehicle's gas tanks but this has not been our experience, the locking gas cap does it job without any problems or complaints.Quick comments about the Motorad MGC-907 locking gas cap:The Motorad MGC-907 locking gas cap is made entirely from lightweight plastic aside from the inner lock-work system where the key fits, and likely warrants gentle handling. It is important to note that unlike other locking gas caps, the Motorad MGC-907 does not automatically lock when you spin the gas cap onto the gas tank filler tube, you must use the key to lock the gas cap once it is secured onto the gas tank! The lock mechanism on the gas cap was initially very stiff and hard to turn so we sprayed WD-40 down the key opening. Spraying the WD-40 lubricant into the lock-works helped loosen up the locking system so the key turned easier in the lock. WD-40 is petroleum based so shouldn't hurt the engine even if a few drops get into the gas tank. The addition of this locking gas cap adds an important level of protection against vandalism and theft that was lacking before we found this locking gas cap.
